When I was young, about 100 years ago, I lived close to the mountains of Washington. We received a lot of snow, but the roads were usually clear and I could ride most of the year. Our house was heated with wood, and an oil stove. That kept most of the house warm except for our bedroom. I was racing at the time and had a steel framed high-end competition bike. To prevent condensation from forming inside the tubes when I brought it in from the cold, I would keep it in our bedroom. Luckily, I had an understanding wife

That bike was a true work of art compared to the TIG welded bikes that we have today, with hand cut lugs,531 Reynolds tubing, and a superb paint job. However, as my wife often reminds me when I point out a new scratch on one of her bikes, "they are just tools".
