Only trouble with modern bikes, you are expected to be fast on it. If you are great but the old bike gives you an additional excuse if not

Good point, and one I have thought about quite a bit. That's also one of the major reasons I decided not to go with the Propel SL 0 (price, ISP, 53/43 crank being the others).
