There are plenty of times when riding we make a decision to do something and safety is a wash. In my experience these kind of intersections are a good example but it all depends on what the situation is right there at the moment.

BUT our right to be on the road means we obey the laws of traffic, whether we think they're stupid or not. Make safe decisions but be prepared to pay.
