The folding bike being shipped was a recumbent tandem that was S&S coupled. It wasn't your standard folding bike in its suitcase (which could be taken on the plane as luggage).

And, BTW, some airline policies are written so that the bike is extra no matter what it's packed in. In other words, it's the fact that it's a bike and not the size, that matters.
