New rider here. Need advice in training + knowledge

Greetings to everyone! My brother got me into riding road bikes. He's been riding for almost a year now. I'm currently using his first bike, a 2013 Trek alpha 1.1 8spd. My first ride was Oct. 24, 2013 with 9 miles 481ft elevation (strava iphone 5) and I thought I was gonna die after a 6.9% .5 mile elevation lol. I now have a total of 6 rides with 199 miles and 17,133 of elevation. It feels good to break your old records and the feeling of improvement. My brother is so much stronger rider than I am so he brings me places to torture me but he does it knowingly i'm ready for it.

What's a proper/best way to train to improve strength/endurance/lactic threshold. So far I have only improve by riding. I do weight lifting. I just restarted doing squats again 2 days ago, I used to do it religiously and at 1 point was pretty strong at it too. Now my max is about halfway it used to be.

He wants me to get my own bike but I keep telling him I want to improve a lot first before I buy my own bike (he currently rides a Trek Madone 6.5). I want to buy a nice bike but only knowing that I DESERVE to ride a bike like that. You don't want to buy a Porsche or Ferrari after you just got your license right?

I want to get strong enough to ride along with my brother and not become a hindrance and also do my first century lol. He's done a century run before. My best so far is 46.6 miles.

Thank you for listening! It might sound like a rant but I just want to improve!
