what fun is the internet without the snark? without the puns, and pictures of cute animals...the internet would be a boring place. and full of bad porn. and pop ups -- lots and lots of pop-ups.

it's really just a problem when ppl declare themselves "in the know;" they take the fun out of being fun. TL;DR: internets are SRS BSNS.

to OP: you wanna keep the reverse side-pull rear brake in case a mid-mounted center-pull brake does not fit on the mid-stay plate. besides not having enough fore-aft clearance, the plate might actually be at the wrong angle all together, which no amount of spacers on either side of plate will ever fix. in that case, the next best solution you have is a drop-bolt (invented by Sheldon Brown). not sure if they're being produced. i guess you could call keeping the rear a contingency plan.
