How about some gouge on the drive train on your Surly? It looks very interesting and I know very little about the modern off-road components. Is that a single chain wheel crank set? It looks like you could climb a vertical wall with the cassette and that small chain ring. From the fantastic pictures I can see why you want that gear range, too. Great report and pictures, thanks.
