This would mean if cycling from San Diego to Tuscon Phoenix one could use this stretch of a proposed 336mi canal path from the California border instead of Interstate-8. Of course one would still have to use roads in CA to get to SD, but perhaps CA could support continuing the path in their state.

An interesting idea, but perhaps not priority in today's budget. Also more for recreation than transport I'd say as I don't think there would be many commuters using even longer sections of this proposed path.
