I'd say don't bother with your contact. If he or she doesn't write on this issue, it's useless anyway.
The reporters are pretty accessible. Email, and then call them the next day to confirm they got it. Be concise about it, just tell 'em what's newsworthy. PM me if you want more tips. This is my 9-5 job.
