I think studded tires do offer peace of mind, but since I don't have problems without studs, I never saw the need to upgrade.
My Wed am commute saw an icy driveway, ice and packed snow around Horn pond conservation area, icy side roads and ice on the Minute Man Bikeway and ice on the Charles river bikeway. Do you commute by bike in the winter? Only on warm days?
