SRAM seems to have traditionally done a slightly faster prototype -> product then that in the past.
I live in Chicago and know some people who know some people at SRAM. I started hearing about testing an electronic groupset there last summer (2012). I'll bet this has been in the works for a while, which is ironic given their anti-battery campaign.
