A new cassette will likely do nothing (unless the internal splines are slipping or something, which is highly unlikely). Sounds like your freehub pawls are not engaging. Do you live in the north country like me? I'd guess the cold is causing things like the lubricant in there to gum up and lock the pawls in a coasting position. Things to try: bring the bike indoors and let it warm up and see if that helps. Spray WD-40 in between the cassette and the axel -- not a permanent solution, but might help get things moving temporarily.
