cleats wear out from use and walking...mileage varies according to how much and how you walk, etc... The pedal body and spindle/bearings/races/cones/etc.... should last a very long time. Don't worry about the cosmetic issues, and yes, they will last longer than cheap pedals...it's the parts that you don't see that matter.
