The doctors have had their chance treating TallWife's frequent migraines with drugs. "Some scientists" (one of them this guy whose book I'm reading: http://www.drperlmutter.com), and a lot of lay folks, see a distinct correlation between gluten and a variety of brain conditions, including both migraines and Alzheimer's, which also runs in her family. This appears particularly true when combined with excess sugar (and starches and hi-carb diets), as sugar oxidizes LDL, preventing it from carrying cholesterol to the brain, which really needs it. You don't have to be celiac to suffer from gluten intolerance, which allegedly causes chronic inflammation.

It's worth a shot, so I've been cooking up a storm lately: beef stew, gumbo, grilled meat and veggies, shrimp stir fry were on the menu this week. I've had some pushback, but with me carrying the cooking burden, and making some, IMHO, delicious meals, we are making it work. Two weeks so far - headache free - but that isn't uncommon. If we make it through ~1/15, I'll be convinced we're onto something.

I had been leaning this direction for some time: minimizing grains, only drinking a little dairy (no more mochas for me!), and focusing on meat protein and veggies.
Hoping for the best for Mrs TallWife.
My motto - eat more woodland critters and stuff from the garden. Add in the occasional gator burger when you can.
