I have an XRD5 on my commuting bike. I had replace the internal mechanism under warranty after a few thousand miles. The high speed pawls had chipped so badly that they would not engage the ball ring leaving me without the top 3 gears. I haven't had an issue with the new internals but I am treating gently. I have a bit less than a thousand miles on it so we'll see.
I like the hub and and I love the drum brakes. I hope that the first one was an anomaly.
