Got out for a couple hours today on a trail that I haven't hit before. Ran across something very odd. A steel cable with a bunch of 55 gallon drums rigged to it coming down the canyon toward the river. Any ideas what this thing is? Location is the American River in No. CA near Auburn.

Today's ride was part hike part bike ride. http://www.strava.com/activities/102237201 The trail sort of ran out and had to carry the bike over boulders along the river for a couple miles until the trail reappeared. Took four hours to cover sixteen miles.
