Koffee has it right. These jokers are just cowards who would wet their pants if they were confronted face-to-face by any cyclist here.

Interesting that this has come up again, after the whole thing with clear channel, and Boston's WRKO. (a station that is not owned by clear channel.)

The LAB got an apology out of clear channel management, and "a termination at the market level" according to their quarterly magazine. I have no doubt that this was done to head off any further legal action.

WRKO settled with the Mass Bike coalition, by agreeing to grant free air time to broadcast service announcments prepared by Mass Bike. WRKO also sponsored some Mass Bike events. One thing that did not happen: An on-air apology from conservative radio bad boy, Howie Carr. Carr was quoted as saying "I don't care what the law says, you don't belong on the road". Using that logic, I'd say that Carr, and people like him, don't belong on the air. As I said, I'm just his own logic here. Carr has attacked cyclists several times over the years. On occasion, he has urged his listeners to "just run them off the road". The good news is that Carr has not attacked cyclists since last year, as promised by WRKO management. (To his credit, he is actually quite good at sticking to our corrupt politicians, and ludicrous state agencies such as the Mass Turnpike Authority.)

What not to do in these cases: Call that program with the potty-mouthed DJ's. You might feel an urge to call them right away, and scream at them, but don't. It's just what they want. It is amazing how brave these people are, while they're inside a high-security building, in a studio, behind a commercial transmitter. If you call in, you become part of the program, subject to their taunts and humiliation. Remember, they have to pull in ratings. To do that, they have to appeal to the lowest common denominator, using humor and language that most of us grow out of at age sixteen. (How sad is that?)

This is another one of those times when I must ask, "How did we get to this?"

Give world band radio a try. Radio Netherlands is quite good, there are plenty of others. With Real player, you can listen on-line to most world band stations (broadband works best for this.)
