Hello.
I would like to ask for you advice, if it is possible.
I have a spare road frame and want to convert it to my first single speed with eno eccentric hub. Because I am not sure which size of freewheel will fit me ( I live in pretty flat city of St. Petersburg, Russia but we do have strong winds because of the wide streets and a lot of water), I was thinking of trying dos eno. It seems like a good idea, so I can try 17/19 with 48 tooths crank.
So my question is about chainline.
Eno eccentric hub which I am getting has 47.5 chainline and a crank
Fsa gimondi has chainline 45mm with Recommend bottom bracket axle length: 110.5mm.
Is the chainline same (47.5) with dos eno? Or more precisely, the chainline is different for each cog but would be okay to run it with 45mm crank? Does this difference matter if I use 3/32" chain?
For summary here is list of my test setup:
FSA GIMONDI crank
Shimano un55 bb 110mm
Eno eccentric hub
Dos eno 17/19 freewheel
3/32" chain
For 700x25 wheels, I get
gear inches
frontrear 16 17 18 19 20 22
48 79.4 74.7 70.6 66.9 63.5 57.7
I read somewhere that 70 is a good average, so 66 and 74 seem like good values to try.
A more general question would be:
Is this all worth to bother? Maybe I can just stick with normal 18 freewheel? But people seem to recommend WI freewheels and DOS is just 20$ more than normal WI freewheel? I could simply buy two different cheap freewheels to test, but on other hand I would like to build a bike that will last a long time. If the chainline is not a big issue with DOS, I willing to give it a try.
Thank you in advance.
Hope to hear your advice.
