Just another politician spouting sound bites without actually having a clue. Yeah, there are people who shouldn't be riding a bike in the winter, but they are usually the same individuals who are a hazard on a bike all year 'round. Winter cyclists are no more a hazard than the countless drivers who can't seem to grasp the basic concepts behind driving on snow and ice. There are multitudes of competent winter riders who are no more "in the way" than any other road user. I'm willing to bet that if one was to do a proper study, the number of injury/property damage cases per 1,000 winter cyclists, is far lower than the number of injury/property damage cases per 1,000 winter drivers. People like the mayor, who I doubt cycle at all, can't imagine riding a bicycle in winter any more than someone from Central America can fathom driving on an icy road.
