dura ace cables on Shimano 105
I'm replacing my cables. I figured the Dura Ace cables would be great. Got them. Began installing them. What I realized was that as the front derailleur cable wraps under the bottom bracket of my Roubaix, it comes up through the frame and in doing so it roughed up the outer coating quite a bit. Even threading the brake cable through the brifter rouged it up unless I took great care. First question is whether I should simply not use the dura ace cables or if I should use my fingernail to rough off the cable coating - particularly with regard to the front derailleur cable. I did read that removing that coating is important where the cable is tightened at the brake so it won't slip.
It also seems clear that the derailleur cable should not use a ferrule with the small black tube that extends from the ferrule inside the brifter. It comes with these small whether protectors but it looks to me like it will bind if used in the brifter. Maybe use the ferrule without the little weather protection tube?
