I'll try to be elegant about this. I'm sorry, but if someone is stupid enough to let their rim wear down to the point of the rim failing is just...well...STUPID!! I've never had a rim wear out in 40 years of riding and over 160,000 miles just on one bike not to mention all the miles I have put on past and presently owned bikes.
on road bikes ridden solely in good weather i also have never worn out a rim
but on mountain bikes with rim brakes
the rims sides are noticeably concave after a few seasons
and circumferential cracks follow soon after
and i have seen dozens of all weather commuter bikes belonging to customers
where the rims have worn out to the point of cracking
perhaps you should try riding fast enough that you need to occasionally use the brakes
