Bikes: 2008 Novara Randonee - love it. Previous bikes:Motobecane Mirage, 1972 Moto Grand Jubilee (my fave), Jackson Rake 16, 1983 C'dale ST500.

It's not possible to say just what the problem is, but likely it is some very slight misalignment, such as a dustcap or slightly bent axle. It shows up at the bottom of the stroke due to the fact that the bike leans slightly and therefore stressed to one side, and the drive train is still. Assuming you've checked for wheel rub, you'll have to investigate the hub to see what is the cause.
