In New York, an Al-Qaeda operative built a bicycle bomb by packing platiques inside the tubes of a stolen Huffy he purchased from Craigslist for $150. When the explosives detonated, the dropouts blew off, sending the steel rimmed wheels on a path of destruction that marred the bumper of a BMW parked near a Starbucks, and broke a window at a nearby Ikea. The seat post (which was apparently fused) was extended by 1mm. The NYPD returned the bicycle to the previous owner after the investigation was completed.

Robert Smits, the original owner of the bike, thanked the NYPD for returning the bike. He also asked Bobby-Joe Jihad (the alleged perpetrator) if he could unstick the stem as well with another explosive charge, which has been a problem ever since Bobby-Joe got the bike in 1988.
