How did you determine what is acceptable/non acceptable performance for a bicycle reflector?
What makes you think CPSC approved reflectors provide inadequate performance, or that bicycle reflector performance is only made acceptable by "better" SAE approved reflectors, especially if it requires an improvised jury-rigged attachment?

That's why some people call reflectors their "lawyer reflectors". Like "lawyer tabs" on a front fork.
Happened many times? "Some people" call/say lots of things.

Do you consider a night time motorist who strikes an unlit, un-reflectorized, virtually invisible cyclist to be a poor driving jack-ass? If not, can you name any instances where some actual poor driving jack-ass got let off because of a reflector technicality?
