+1 on Scratch. I've had my kids programming on it for a couple years. I make them earn video game time by writing games of their own, and every once in a while they get caught up in it and would rather play around on scratch than play games.
Cool! It's really amazing how accessible it's made that kind of work. I haven't yet been able to turn any of my nontechnical friends onto it enough that their own kids are hitting it.
I'm going to meet with our elementary school administration to see if they'd let me run an Hour of Code there. Seems that in Austin, several middle schools got the Hour, but not elementary.
