I wouldn't risk the ebay sale. Call the guy, talk to him, and tell him how you'd give the bike a great home, etc. Most people will sell something relatively easily to a good buyer who knows and likes the bike. Plus, he'll be avoiding ebay fees and the hassle of a buyer who doesn't pay in the end.
