Thanks everyone.. I have taken everyone's advice and will run with what I got.
However, I still put in an order today for Alexrims FR30 (sweet deal for $40) as I have decided to build a complete wheelset with my old DT350 hubs (which I completely forgot that I have) that I found in my drawer last night.
So I can retain my old Hope/ZTR Crest and use it as an XC set, and the other as an all around set.
Anyway, the reason why I want to try wider rims is because of this article that I read.

That's an interesting link. often wondered why MTB rims were as narrow as they are, wider does make more seance even for the unwashed like me who still use tubes.
