Oh, I agree about the temporary headset too. It's not consistent with how I intend to finish the bike. I'm hoping it'll just get me on the road so I can take it on a few shake-down rides before investing in a new steerer, new fork, or whatever. This is my mid-life crisis bike (50 this May) so I'm aiming high.
That's the way!

Aim high, this is a gorgeous frameset.

I've owned two Corsa Extras and they are top notch riders.

No need to cobble this pure bred with "b" grade parts.

Now, is this seller interested in taking care of you?

Find out pronto. Someone cut this steerer incorrectly and they likely sold it because they couldn't sort the problem.

Or they knew what a new steerer would cost, which in the big picture isn't likely all that much for a top shelf frameset like this one.

Anywho, whether the seller pays or not, get some quotes from reputable builders.

Choose one and get it taken care of pronto. You don't need a new fork and why would you build it before this matter is resolved?

BTW Why do you need to test ride a 7-11 Corsa Extra for gosh sakes?

You chose wisely in the first place. This is no longer the time for test rides.

Edit: I just got off the phone with two local builders and quickly discussed this fork issue.

Ballpark for the new steerer is around $100 plus a one color repaint which would run roughly $150.

Let the seller know you will be seeking an adjustment with ebay. Maybe the prices will be higher out there on the east coast, but my guys here are nationally known builders. If you need names, let me know.

Otherwise call the guys I already mentioned.
