I've kind of moved in the opposite direction. I have a lightweight diy foldable rear fender I just slap on when it's wet out. Keeps my tush clean. Doesn't get in the way if I need to stuff the bike in my car and more importantly doesn't get jammed up on offroad excursions. I tend to be a minimalist though.
