I am still using the original drive train and chain on my commuter. 42 years old. Of course, it's not STI, it's stem shift. I have STIs on my Roubaix, and I don't baby them. This stuff just isn't that fragile. If it was, everyone would dump those components for something more rugged. Try not to crash, that how stuff gets busted.
