Both of the Mixtes shown are HiTen steel frames, that is they have fairly robust and thick steel tubes. I would think a brake clamp could be constructed and installed without harming the frame. A two piece clamp across the twin tubes behind the the seat tube would likely work. The plate style like on the black Raleigh could be supported on the twin top tubes and clamped to the seat tube like a FD perhaps?
I'm hoping others have ideas as I have a Raleigh Record Mixte that is being built as a 5 speed.
