I've thought about this, and I think there is the clearance for them in the frame. Not sure about the brakes though. I had a pair of cyclocross tires in a box for a long time and just got rid of them last spring. The gearing is all wrong though, and somehow I feel bad about abusing the Merckx on the trails.
