Me too. It was always fun to watch the machines make them at the KK on Broad in Richmond, VA. Dunkin' always seemed way too "heavy" by comparison. Neither KK nor Dunkin' has been able to stick in SE MN, though. The last KK in Rochester lasted less than a year. Dunkin', supposedly, is going to take another shot at it. The thing is, people are much more loyal to their local bakeries here.
I remember when the first KKs opened up in the NW Twin Cities - the line to get in the parking lot backed up on to the freeway.
KK/DD have their place, but local bakeries are a good thing... well, provided that they're actually good. I was glad to see that Minneapolis has a growing bakery scene - there are a couple of stellar pastry shops near me, but I still haven't found a great doughnut boutique. I hear that Glam Doll is pretty good, but haven't found myself in the neighborhood (contrary to popular belief, I don't make dedicated trips to doughnut shops).
