Over-lubing chain & fixing steering tube squeak.....

Ok, so 2 lessons learned......

1 .) When you're on bikeforums & they say, "It don't take much oil to lube the chain"......they really mean it. I also agree with the user who is using Bar & Chain oil ONLY!!! I see NO reason to thin this stuff. Nor do I think it needs any lubricative additives. This stuff is plenty slippery on its own. (i.e. Yes, I used too much & yes I was wiping the chain down forever just to get to "ridiculously lubricated" down from "beyond ridiculously lubricated"

2 .) Although many bike folks have said, "Don't be afraid of water. Do give your bike a bath!".....All went well except for the steering tube. Once I got the bike all dried, lubed & ready to put away, I noticed the steering tube was squealing like a rusty gate hinge. I rode around a while, came back, bounced the front end a bit, hung it upside down, etc. and still noisy. I used a little silicone spay top & bottom & it finally went away but any suggestions for keeping from happening?

Thanks for listening!
