I didn't lay the tiles. You could tell they are pretty old, probably almost as old as the house (1940). They are also 9x9, which is smaller than the current 12x12 ones that are being manufactured today. Armstrong does make tile similar to this today, but the grain is less pronounced and the colors aren't quite as bright. I did have to replace about 15 tiles, a carful look can probably spot them.
9x9 tiles are asbestos containing material. If they are not breaking up there is minimal danger, but if they are chipping or coming apart the fibers are free and there is inhalation danger. If you want to remove them, hire a pro.
