Thank you to the original poster for sharing his observation, very thought provoking, as is almost anything that is posted here. My contribution is that a bar of strong deodorant soap, even in it's box, makes your panniers smell great. Irish Spring (not an Irish Fundamentalist Uprising) is my favorite.
