My current calipers measure about 49mm from the underside of the brake arm to the bottom of the flange where the pad mounts. Am I measuring in the correct place and do I need 49mm calipers? Thanks.
The 105s will be fine. Some CAAD10 models come with either the Tektro's or 105 brakes.

Currently, "short-reach" calipers usually offer a range of 39-49 mm. This has become the de-facto standard for "road" calipers, and can now be considered "normal", though it is also correct to call it "short."
