My lesson today: on the side of the streets there was snow and ice run over by vehicles, with the tire prints. I thought my bike wheels would crush them smoothly when I rode on them. Was caught by surprise when those tire prints turned out to be solid hard, so my wheels were trapped between the prints. Could be dangerous if my bike fell and there was a fast truck next to me.
Good that you noticed that and didn't actually wipe out this time. this past summer I was riding on the soft shoulder and all of a sudden I was in a 5" high by 5" wide rut...couldn't get out (should have braked) and wiped out. No cars around, just a sore hip and dinged Brooks
