I saw a replay/follow-up of this story on last night's 11pm news, and they mentioned that the cop who tackled him was among the fittest on the force and had been on the football team in high school some 10 years earlier.

Maybe the perp would have made it past a slower officer, he did seem to carry some momentum and had the strength to get right back up with the cop somehow clinging tenaciously to his upper body.

So it was a bit of sporting football heroics that was captured on camera, made the cop look pretty good.
