First post here after lurking for a while.
Just finished last day of Base yesterday. Recovery week until Thursday.
2 blocks of Build planned before the big 'A' race. Wondering how to schedule it out. Plan on doing 3 hard rides a week and 1 semi-hard group ride. I don't get a lot of time with family to do any rides on the weekends (Saturdays are usually OFF) so I use Thursday morning 3 hour ride as the big long ride of the week. Usually it ends up being 2 long climbs at threshold. My threshold power right now is really great after base blocks. Need to work on 1m and 5m power now.
For Build I'm thinking of maintaining Thursday threshold rides and adding a hard trainer ride on sunday night and 5x5 hill repeats on tuesday. Problem is that my efforts on the trainer are never as good as they are outdoors, so I worry that its a waste to make the trainer session one of the 3 hard rides of the week. Probably will also do the mellower group ride on Fridays (Palo Alto Noon Ride), would love to do Tuesdays as they are harder, but it just doesn't fit into my work schedule.
BTW, anyone ever do ZeCanon intervals on a hill? Was thinking of trying it on a long climb like HWY9, Montebello or Page Mill. Otherwise I have to resort to the crit course to have enough uninterrupted road for these.
