Anyway, when I got around to checking the hubs on this bike they were bone dry. Maybe oily but no grease at all, and also bound down too tight. I'm glad it occurred to me to check.
Sorry I didn't see this sooner, I would have told you to check every bearing, wheels, BB, and headset. The bike I got from BD needed grease on all of the bearings, so I rebuilt it before I rode.
Hope you son enjoys it, and gets bitten by the n+1 bug.
