When that machine was new it was expected that it would be converted to FG training in the winter, there should be no drama or hand-wringing about doing that today much less screaming. It will have plenty of cables to fret about w/ the brake(s) the OP chooses to run FG.
The OP isn't proposing any frame-butchery ( you seem a little iffy on whether that's even possible ) so your-panties-need-not-be-quite-so-tightly-wadded over nothing.
Also that machine has not won any thing other than an admiring glance in it's history, although it was fitted w/ tubular tires OEM.
PS
Reading a thread in it's entirety before posting is advised to prevent screaming & such.
