Generic Magic Shine CREE XML for $16.50. You won't get the claimed 1200 Lumens but it's very bright, about 4X the claimed 150 lumen $99 Niterider I had before I switched to Magic Shines and at least as reliable. If you just care about being seen that will often cause cars to mistake you for a fast moving 500 pound motorcycle that might dent their door and therefore gets more respect and cut off less often than a presumably slow moving 30 pound bicycle which might not. I get more respect at night than during the day.

Cygolite Hotshot 2W LED taillight for $27. Twice as bright as a Planet Bike Superflash. Won't leak water when you ride in the rain and corrode the battery holder like the PB unit. Recharges via a USB cable so you don't have to buy AAA batteries. Almost free compared to an insurance deductible.
