Coldspring RR is day before Houston Grand Crit and is a good race. Also have Chappell Hill RR which is always a fun race. All of those are within an hour of Houston. Plus weekly crit series (Bear Creek & MPC (hopefully this year)) starting in the summer are local.
State TT & TTT are planned to be in Houston this year as well (although a lot of people (non-Houston) are *****ing because it is the same weekend as Tulsa Tough).
You can find a lot of racing within a 2.5-3 hr drive of Houston.
