Hey there. Yes after a lot of unsuccessful research I found a local bike shop that could help me. The owner of the shop is Keith, and he has his own personal vintage bicycle collection. Just from looking at the bike he could tell me that it was late 30's, was a lightweight steel frame (for its time) and he had a feeling it was also a Humber. After 20 or so minutes of his own online research he was 99% sure it was a Humber. He also identified it by "The Appointment of" wording on the head badge. He said that it was weird however that it did not have the duplex forks, saying he had only seen one other without the duplex forks and that it was in his own collection. So I am wondering if the forks that are on it are not the original forks? Also I have been looking online and there seem to be a few Humbers for sale, here in New Zealand that have the standard chain ring.
Thank you for your help in identifying it, yours does look quite similar. I have attached 19 photos of mine so we can compare, it would be good to know some more about mine. And yeah it is a shame the guads had been painted... oh well. At the moment I am enjoying riding it as is. But I will start to restore it in the very near future I think.
