Thanks so much Diablo Scott & Rccardr!
You are a wealth of information. The pictures of the 1984 catalog are very helpful. It is a little hard to see all the details in the posted picture but the 3 brazed top tube brackets for the brake cable and the cut-out detailing on the inside of the frame crown match exactly with my bike. I think the guy I bought it from in about 1986 had bought it new and not had it very long, so 1982 - 1984 is probable. I remember the first owner was on a local amateur team and raced it competitively so I suppose it could be a 1984 team issue frame done in black, or a professional model ordered without the chromed chain stay and with the team issue decals? I'm certain the paint and decals are original except for the Campy decal above the shifters that I applied nearly 30 years ago. I've found pictures on the internet of bikes claimed to be '82 and '83 Professional models with the picture of Eddy decal, but other details did not match my bike, (and who knows about those internet pictures?). I did get a hold of Peter, the Merckx guy in New York, and he promised to forward my email to Belgium. We will see what happens with that. I will definitely post again if I get any more definitive answers to this investigation.
I'm getting kinda stoked on this bike again, but I have neck problems and I stopped riding because of the pain when I try to ride in a tuck. Also, I'm moving on to a sailboat and need to get rid of as much stuff as possible to minimize storage costs.
Thanks for all the help!
