You want to avoid bad collisions... you are better off riding where there are no or few motorists... on well designed paths away from MV traffic and intersections.
You can do all the stuff that the LAB recommends, but you cannot predict what errant and aggressive motorists will do.
As soon as routes of that type are in place, leading to my office, extended family and grocery store, I'll use them. These destinations range from 2 miles to 200 miles. In the event that it never happens, are you suggesting I just not use a bicycle for transportation?
