You are very wrong on that. No one needs an LBS in this day and age. it might be convenient. it might bring a lot of resources particularly to those first starting off. but at the end of the day, bicycles aren't complex machines. no one needs an LBS.

this is why so many are going out of business, it's basic capitalism. they are failing to adapt and provide relevancy.
I disagree with your fundamental premise. For as long as there are people who would rather pay someone else to fix a flat than do it themselves, there's business for a bike shop.

The burning question is whether there's enough business to pay wages and keep the lights on.
