Two friends of mine ride our bikes to a boat launch/pier at the end of the city, overlooking the ocean. We drank roughly 15oz. of bourbon each, jump in the ocean, climb some trees, and hop on our bikes. 2 a.m., portland maine. DEAD EMPTY STREETS. One friend and i start racing down a boardwalk, leaving the other in the dust. We reach the street that runs along the wharf, my cell phone rings, causing distraction and making my friend swerve into me at full speed. We both crashed. i don't know what he was planning to do...take it out of my pocket for me?
on the phone was friend #2, (left in the dust.) he had crashed, knocking out a front tooth and shredding up his hands. blood, broken bike pieces everywhere.
on the race back to find him friend #1 ran headlong into a lamppost. destroyed his bike and bent up his shoulder bits.
i was the only one unscathed, and the only one on a fixed. moral?
