I have a regular "area" that I ride in and the terrain is pretty much the same. This allows me to compare the avg. speed from one ride to the next. I'll check the avg. speed on the computer at the end of the ride and the last ride was 15.6 mph for a 37mph ride. That was a bit longer than my usual after work ride but the avg. speed was about the same. I've had the computer for just over 200 miles and my avg. speed is up about one mph.
I can hold 20-23 mph on the flats by myself but not sure for how long as some rolling hills always come up before I slow down. I've done a few sprints just to see what I could do and was able to crank it up to 25-27 mph for up to half a mile.
I pay far more attention to the cadence during a ride; getting it into the mid to upper 90's using the same gears as when my cadence was in the 80's has been my goal.
39(almost 40) riding for three months. 5'8" 148lbs.
Slow but poseurifically correct.
